Back in my hands
04/15/21 13:15
I just picked up my Defender. I am told that "some updates" addressed the issue/s. I certainly hope that these updates didn't overnight the patch that JLR had to write last month to address the random stalling issue. I should know within a couple days of driving. Here were all of the issues that were to be addressed:
1) Vehicle won't lock - confirmed fixed
2) Audio randomly stops regardless of source, requires clicking on Home, and then re-selecting an audio source - not yet confirmed to be fixed
3) Vehicle Settings > Service Interval shows "Not Available" (despite mobile App accurately reflecting the next scheduled service) - confirmed fixed (goofy, the car must be on without the engine running)
4) Auto-blinds not working - confirmed fixed
5) Replace windshield - not fixed, I will take care of my own (on national backorder, I might get my compressor first)
6) Oil change - completed
7) Won't start due to dead battery - confirmed fix

Towed in, now on a loaner

Managed to get the Defender loaded on a flat bed and towed to my local dealer, where they were able to get me into a loaner. I'm looking forward to finding out what exactly has gone wrong this time.
Still Waiting

After some correspondence with the tow company, it will be at least 1.5-2 hours before they can be here. I sure hope I'll be able to make my vaccine shot this afternoon!

Another call to Roadside Assitance

Normally, I probably would have tried jump starting the car myself, and try driving to the dealership as planned. However, since I have had so many problems with my Defender, I now feel compelled to make sure JLR has a record of these events. I call roadside assistance and ask that they tow my vehicle to the dealership. I am told the tow truck will be here in 15 minutes.

It continues to go downhill

Now back at home, I called my local dealer on Friday to inform them I would be dropping the Defender off this morning (Monday). But before I do, I'm going to go play some racquetball with my friends. At least, I thought I would. I walked into my garage this morning and noticed the marker lights on. I recall yesterday morning when I started the car there was a message one the dash telling me to start the car because the battery was low. Well… today it appears more than low. Here is the video of what I woke up to.
Wait... the car won't lock

We were in the middle of a 2 week family vacation in Arizona and Nevada, pulling our new RV and getting in some serious mountain biking. It was time for my wife and I to re-supply at a local store as we prepare to move on to our next camping spot. When I went to lock the car, it made a very strange sound… but didn't lock the doors. I tried several times using the proximity buttons on the doors, the remote, the remote app, the buttons inside the car, and even the physical valet key (video). The physical key would lock the driver side door… but I could not lock the car entirely. I called Roadside Assistance while my wife ran into the store. Roadside Assistance transferred me to JLR Customer Service, who then advised that I take the vehicle into the nearest dealer. If you read my previous vacation incident, you'll know that I've been down this road before. I cannot afford to take the car into a local dealer for them to have it for several days, during my family vacation where my RV is expected to be moved. So, we have to cancel the rest of the trip and head home (take 2).
